Here is my credit card strategy, recession or no recession. Never pay a penny of interest. never buy anything you can't afford. If you want to get an indication of what you can afford, go to the bank and ask for a line of credit and if you need credit live within that. Credit card debt is for mugs. I use credit cards for two things. Paper trail and airline points. I now have one million airline miles. That is useful. Credit card debt is crippling, but thank God our customers use them.
Also, as Alex says, the recession manifests itself in lots of ways. Even though the Starbucks around me are always full, I suspect that most are ordering tall coffees instead of grande....I know I do. That has to hurt.
My customers are doing the same thing. But on the bright side, I still have a profitable business and customers. Many don't. Internext should be interesting.
