Agreed. There's a reason I don't watch television - if I want to watch ritualised, fetishistic, masturbatory bloodlust, I'll rent a Fulci film.
Interestingly, it's not a new phenomenon at all - it's simply much more pervasive. When Larry Flynt was fighting his obscenity charges (over and over and over again), this was precisely the point he referenced: why is porn obscene, but the news is not? What's more disgusting: the human form or the group-think that gets its rocks off by scavanging on pain and suffering of others?
