How did Oprano start?


as sort of a joke, a fun place under the domain ynottoppond.com named after 3 Adult WM posting boards


MikeAI started it and some of us posted there back and forth, some business and a lot of stuff about food and whatever we thought was interesting

Then Serge and MikeAI teamed up to start Oprano, it was launched from ynottoppond.com (and maybe some other places)

and Oprano was about the adult business and whatever struck our fancies.

Most of the people there were on their way out of the adult business. The biggest money had been made (and not from illegal schemes or luck), it was way before market saturation when porn on the 'net was still novel, fresh and not oversaturated.

and if you were new you had to EARN your right or way to post on Oprano
It was never a right but a privilege

Yeah some asses were chapped, I personally helped to break in Pushpills and JoeSho
(JoeSho I've met in person and he was a fine gentleman, a real good guy. I don't know what's up with his current persona on the boards, but pixels on a message board do not a person make)
- side note it all came full circle when JoeSho basically said I wasn't wanted/needed here so I packed up, no great loss to anyone

But they stood the test of fire and came out better for it

So some didn't make the grade, porn darwinism

While we didn't speak in specifics we all pretty much knew each other and who made what (we also shared parts of our lives such as children, vacations, extreme weather and so on)

What guys getting in the business now are making most likely wouldn't be enough for us "oldtime bitter fucks" to live on so we do different things, that doesn't make anyone stupid or less of a person, just different people in different situations

New guys in this business didn't even know who Robin Nixon was when he was posting here, (he invented some of the marketing concepts/strategies you use today)

The current ownership has taken a different path and that's their choice

But it's kind of sad to see so much 'net intelligence and heritage just dusted away and pushed to the side

I don't know what will be easier to monetize, a board with a couple Old Fucks or a bunch of newb's that I doubt push a total of 30 memberships per day

But then again, it's just a message board


p.s. For my .02 Anthony and Nick do not need to apologize and it would be a huge token of goodwill if the current owner of Oprano reinstated them

and I could go on but for now you get the idea. I'm not up to a piss just telling it like I see it
