Actually it might have more to do with the fact that our oil is in oil sands, which requires an extraction process. All the necessary processing plants that perform this process are in the USA, so our petroleum products don't directly come to us like they do in other countries.
The situation is.... unfortunate.
At least we're not paying European prices. Must... count.... blessings....
