Default Re: Who wants Rhetorical to leave?

*sigh*

This is usually the sort of thread I'd prefer to avoid like the plague, but I do think it requires an insertion of logic.

Quite obviously...judging from page views and responses, absolutely no one - with the exception of the nameless and faceless few who neither viewed the threads nor responded - want rhetorical to leave.

I've been off and on the adult 'net since 1997. I mention that only because I've seen a lot of message boards. A *lot* of message boards. At one time or another, I've worked for most of them in some capacity or another.

In all that time, there is absolutely NO ONE that I'd trust with making rational decisions on who has or has not the right to post on a board. I've seen people banned, agreed with the banning, and perhaps even instigated a ban or two - but the decisions could hardly be called "rational." They were emotional, clutch-at-the-gut decisions. Personal, not business, as it were.

So, I add my own name to the list of people I wouldn't trust to make a rational decision on making anyone leave a message board. Any individual has the right to post anything they want, as long as the rules of the board are not broken. Any other individual has the right to ignore any post/thread they choose.

To paraphrase the rather famous "first they came for..." essay: first, you come for rhetorical, because you don't like what he posts. Then, you come for the relentlessly cheerful people with a tendency to run on at length....

I'm not at all comfortable with that.
