At least your situation is better than many others I'd heard - you actually got your checks without them having been reissued by the sending company.

I apologize for somehow leaving that part of the story out. I've paid a pretty penny having these things reissued, and not even seen the reissued version. I'd call them and rip them bad, saying I was going to drop them for CCBill if they didn't get their act together because these problems were ridiculous. They never really had much to say about it, so I always suspected it was the old 'check is in the mail' routine.
So I've had them UPS my checks on a couple occasions. And now I feel much relief knowing where the source of the problem is, but I also feel bad for the misdirected accusations.
I want to kick that postal worker in the nuts. He really stressed me financially.
