Well, Mike (or Buff, if that's still you) - I think you answered my question.

First of all, I think that trying to claim we have been at war with Islamic fundamentalists “since Jefferson” requires the sort of mental gymnastics that would cripple anyone with any structure or substance to their brain.

Second, I did not say that there was no involvement by Islamic fundamentalists in the Paris rioting. I don't doubt there is some involvement. There are probably all kinds of fringe groups involved as well. That does not mean that the people torching a car or looting a shop are followers of any of the groups; it also does not mean the same conditions of civil unrest would not exist if the Islamic groups were not agitating.

I will say that the conditions of an underclass generally make them ripe for exploitation by the likes of Islamic fundamentalists, communists, anarchists, whateverthefuckists (including Christian missionaries, in some places). The condition of the Islamic underclass in France is not new news. It's been going on since they allowed unfettered immigration of their house niggers from the colonies back in the 50s and 60s.

The danger comes in attributing all of the resentment to the works of Islamic fundamentalists. It is the nice, simple, kind of package that has great appeal to weak and small minds. Particularly, it is the prime focus of 'bigots us[ing] it to justify their bigotry.' It reminds me very much of the way the crackers in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and/or Louisiana attributed all Knee-grow disenchantment to the work of “Communists, Jews, and outside agitators” back in the 50s and 60s. (Those people [sic] were quite fond of dismissing all black people as animals too.)
