Not necessarily. Sometimes people give things away simply because they're nice and grateful for the company. Everyone measures the quality of their own life by a very personal yardstick.
If he had a breathing problem, it would increase the chances that he was one of the vast number of statistical "fire deaths" that die due to smoke inhalation. Most people don't actually burn to death in fires. They're dead before the fire gets to them.
No, 600 pounds is not a good thing. This poor man had both physical and psychologica problems. He also had a family and friends, including two young daughters that obviously loved him very much.
