Actually, Jesus Christ is a well documented historical figure; a very nice Jewish lad who made things just a tad uncomfortable for the Romans. In the height of irony, Rome has since made a thousand fortunes off his name in the ensuing 2000 years. (Were I Christ, I'd be pissed, but I don't have that whole "forgiveness" thing going on.)
The only thing wrong with the whole equation isn't Christ...it's "Christians," but personally, I don't feel that he can be held responsible for the actions of a bunch of people that went collectively batshit after he left this mortal coil.
