i never believe in the people. i believe in the system. i do not believe that either the system can be perfect all the time or that people can be perfect all the time (although we all should know that god loves republicans more).
on the whole, its a pretty cool machine that has seen little change in over 300 years. imagine dreaming up a judicial and legal system so brilliant in its function, design, system of checks and balances and its adaptive nature, that people aren't in a real hurry to change it. it came into existence well before the salem witch trials when people were being burned at the stake and continues almost unchanged, as we now routinely fly into space. incredible. bush is an idiot. but we should all understand that he will not be the last idiot. luckily for all of us, the system is literally built around this fact and it's self correcting.
as the political pendulum of all that is wrong and feared continues to swing back and forth, even sometimes increasing and decreasing in its arcs , we tend to ignore the resist the notion that significant constraints exist to restrict its motion and return it to center before swinging the other way.
if the pendulum is not swinging your way you have to wait 4 years. thats the deal. ranting about how it is swinging away from you will not change that fact, nor will it stop it from swinging
a president who's a member of the christian right can't approve a supreme court justice and put him on the bench - the system by design, protects you from this. what is there to be afraid of?
