The point is JR, it may not be the most trying times they'll ever face. There are more hurricanes coming - the season isn't even over yet. Next year there's more coming. And the year after that. And each year, they're supposed to get WORSE.

What good is it to rebuild these homes and give these people false hope that everything is going to be okay when we saw just how easy it is for this city to be destroyed?

Old River Control upriver on the Mississippi is fighting daily to flow where she wants to. Those levees are at least 30 years old. If that thing lets out - and it nearly did one time and has been repaired numerous times - then everything below that point in the river turns into swampland, straight to the Gulf. One hurricane going right up to that point, rather than jogging off east a little like Katrina did, will ensure that there will never again be a New Orleans... or many other cities between it and the Gulf. If those things bust, the lives lost will be in the millions, because there won't be time to evacuate.

What we're seeing is a WARNING, JR. A sledgehammer hint to get the hell out of there while there's still time.

I am hoping for the best. I'm also thinking about these people's future. I'm not saying they're talking about letting the *people* go, I'm saying the city and it's buildings. Who cares about the buildings? It's just brick. At least the people still left alive HAVE their lives. It is far better to help them rebuild their lives somewhere SAFE, than to put them right back into this situation waiting for the next hurricane or the ORC levees to bust and come wipe them out again.

Which is more cruel? Thinking now of their future and telling them they may not be able to go back to their replaceable material things, or telling them they'll be able to go back and everything will be okay when we know damn well it's only a matter of time before it happens again and more lives are lost?
