they are relentless, I've been with buddies who tried to talk casually at the taste of chicago and the blues fest and they basically call in your manhood and try to make you feel like a sissy if you don't wanna join up, but you'll be a real man if you do. haven't seen the tactics on women but i'm sure they are like "you can be a real example to women everywhere that you can be as good or better than any man."
I think joining the armed forces is a respectable thing....if you really want to do it. They shouldn't try to sell you like a used car salesmen...but I guess that's how they get the average person to sign up, and they keep their job without having to go to iraq.
