I'm not sure how Florida's law reads, but here, someone can't just be on your property, they have to actually enter your residence before you can shoot them.
Many people here just say, hey, if someone is on your doorstep and your in fear for your life, shoot them outside then drag them inside your house and call the police.
For the record though, I don't recommend that.
