Kath,

EXACTLY what I've noticed and experienced. Of course it started long ago but I wonder if the World Wide Web has contributed to this even further. Now it is easier to find people online that one has much in common with than in one's neighborhood.
As always you make an excellent point Colin.

I've noticed that my kids have friends all over the world that they meet online to chat with at various times of the day, but are losing interest in neighborhood friends because of their changes in interest, music, hobbies, attitudes.... The "in" thing lately around here is the player/gang banger attitude/dress among all the "poor rich white kids" in the area. It reminds me of Jamie Kennedy in Malibu's Most Wanted - lol My kids - being homeschooled and not "properly socialized" according to the school district - have no patience for this and prefer to find like-minded friends online to "hang out with" - and I can't say that I blame them.

Fortunately they are involved in local clubs/groups on a regular basis - and do have a few friends in-state that they talk to on the phone and visit on weekends - so they have "real" friends and not just "virtual" ones. However they are definitely outgrowing a lot of the neighborhood kids because they are discovering that sometimes the grass IS greener elsewhere...
