I had the same debate with heather years and years ago...
Heather - "Nick your insane.Why deo you take such lousy pictures of lousy models"
Me -"Think those pics are bad?I take poloroids and scan them sometimes"
Heather - "The lighting and make up really suck....."
Me - "Heather these are supposed to be pictures of guys girlfriends that they took themselves after a drunken fridays night and then submitted them to my site.The $$$ tells me I'm right"
