Have your friends set you up. I swear, except for meeting guys at said friend's parties, those are the only dates I've gone in forever. So far their taste in men sucks :P
But it really is the best way, IMHO. That way they more than likely already know what you do, you know they aren't ax murderers (supposedly) and you have mutual friends you can talk about if the conversation lags
