It depends on the margins. In 2000 there were like 4-5 states where margin of victory was under .5%. That's worthy of a recount and waiting a few days on the absentee ballots, etc. However, when that didn't work out, things got out of control in Florida with the Democrats wanting to change how the ballots were counted with the hanging chads, etc.
Alot of lessons were learned in 2000, most states have well defined processes for all of this now and definitions of what exactly constitutes a vote in the event of the old style punch cards with chads, etc. Ohio is one such state by the way.
In this case, it looks like there isn't going to be a state that is THAT close. The election is close enough to warrant waiting til tomorrow I think. Re-eveluate things like absentee ballots outstanding, etc at that point and see where it stands. But if there's 2% margin of victory in a state the size of Ohio, that's 100,000+ vote margin.
It's bullshit to contest an election just because you do not like the results or to try to legally manipulate the process. The powers that be in the DNC are so partisan though, I fear that is exactly what'll happen. If nothing else it strings along the Meni's and Michael Moores of the world who are convinced Bush was never elected.
