I have a theory when bad shit happens - and I agree it does tend to come in 3's
Its like in an explosion - before there is a sudden but definitive suction of matter and then and big bang. See the theory on how the universe was created

When there is a sudden grouping of bad shit its just the universe (or whatever) preparing you for the great shit.... so you have the capacity to enjoy it........

My sympathies for your dog - losing one is hard no matter what the circumstances, but then again I agree with Jo - can't hurt and could help
