Crusades, Spanish Inquisition ... how about when the Pope gave 20,000 soldiers to the Medici to retake Florence? And with the Pope's blessings they slaughtered every man, woman and child in the neighboring town? Think I recall it was upwards of 2,000, but who cares if it was just 200? (They slaughtered the nieghboring town btw, cause they didn't want to take over a destroyed Florence.)
