PD:

Several times now you have referenced your "girlfriend's son" as being a soldier of some sort deployed in the Middle East. If the lad signed up to do military service, who are you to complain that he's now fighting a war? I cannot imagine why anyone would join the armed forces if they did not want to be available for kicking the crap out of people globally. There's always the Peace Corps for people who have a sense of duty but would prefer not to put their lives at risk (as much).

Does he not want to be there or something? If so, why did he sign up?
there is a difference between people who signed up to learn, gain skills, pay for college *and* do so knowing they possibly will have to defend their country and the notion that *because* they joined up, it makes it quite alright to send them to a meat grinder.

its a two way street. the Army does not exactly run ads saying "hey, how would you like to get ambushed, shot and killed, decapitated and hung from a street post to be seen on global news networks while you are fighting in a war started under questionable pretenses with little to no world support"

in fact, the army paints quite a different picture of what it is like to join up.

this whole Iraq issue has changed my perspectives on a lot of things and i said a lot of things before this started that i sincerely wish i had not.
