My first suggestion would be to get a
autorank script wich is what most amateurs use. They have a ready made friends page template so you can easily copy and paste it for the basic design everyone use. Then trading and keeping track of links will be a breeze
Your friends page is a great page to use as a exit console (if you don't mind a popup) and I have had great success with that.
