BTW ... only (mostly) kidding about the Air Scouts. I spent 9 years, 5 months, and 22 days in (what was then) the world's 2nd largest nuclear navy, and was never on board a U.S. ship. Having asked the Navy for any ship in San Diego, California (there were one or two there), I was sent to the Naval Air Station, Brunswick, Maine. Did have 800+ flight hours, though.

Me, I had to do all my Navy time in:
Key West
Bermuda (this counted as sea duty even though I was never on a ship)
Ferndale California
and
Cape Hatteras, NC (again, this was counted as sea duty for rotation)
It was tough fucking duty, but someone had to do it.................
