Tell your friend that "gaining too much weight" is a doctor thing, not a body thing. Her body knows what it's doing. It was made to do this! If she's putting on weight, it's for a reason. P'raps she has twins in there or maybe she'll just have a big eater and she's getting ready for it. Doctors treat pregnant women like they're sick and stupid and really do a good job of convincing women that pregnancy is a "sickness" that they need to doctor to guide them through.
I walked out of my last doctor's appointment. They haven't bothered to call me to reschedule or even ask why. *shrugs* Doctors are hired help, not gods. Very specialized hired help to be sure, but still, they answer to us.
Anyway. Enough of that before I get on a rant. You've read all of my homebirthing rambling on my personal site anyway.
Tell your friend to just trust in her body and go with the flow.
