Folks, the jury and the law are the ones letting him have unsupervised visits (which is really a misnomer, since he WILL be supervised by his family and you can bet the SS will be following him.....) because they are the ones who convicted him of being guilty by reason of insanity and our court system allows for those convicted of this to have the possibility of release with rehabilitation.
It wasn't the judge himself who is in error, IMHO, it's the base court system that allows people off the street as jurors (and I include myself as someone who doesn't have enough legal knowledge to pass judgement) and a verdict that allows eventual release on something like this.
