The dems are already trying to float the myth that Saddam was actually captured a while ago, but it was "just now" made public as a timed boost for Bush's "lagging" (?????) ratings.

The only wrinkle in your theory, JR, is if the people are scared stiff at being faced with Saddam in the same courtroom and they nearly piss themselves and let him off scott-free because they're afraid of the consequences of convicting him. (Henchmen coming to kill their families, etc.)

Saddam is also holding to his statement that there are no WMDs, and I believe that nothing short of torture would get him to change his story. His political career (what might be left of it) and most likely his life depends on him clinging to this "no WMD" line.
