I am well aware there are some bright minds in the military, we have a large ROTC program on my campus and I have quite a few of them in my classes. Imagine that, leaders of people wanting to learn more about people. Are they the exception or the rule?

So bigotry runs in your family. Your cousins want to kill sand niggers, while you (at least profess to) take delight in the killing of American servicemen at Pearl Harbor, not to mention busloads of Israeli children. Nothing suprising in that, I guess.
Enlisted folks are the grunts - the factory workers of the military organization. They are probably no worse educated than workers at that level in ANY organization - and I'd suspect a little better, but have no contemporary facts to prove it. Jessica Lynch is no more, nor any less, articulate than a supply clerk at Boeing, IBM, Jenny Craig or Freddy's Auto Parts - and there is no need for her to be.
And I suspect that the officers you come into contact with are typical. Most of them have narrow, bigoted minds like yours that can absorb facts and spit them out, and make the judgements expected of them in whatever specialty they have (academic or military). They sneer condescendingly (in probably the same tone you take) about eggheads like you.
