You are right about that, Jim. The teacher involved and the disciplinarian in question should be locked up in a room with the idiot from LA who wrote the now infamous "master and slave" memo.
Well, it just so happens that I know a little bit about this subject. I have three beautiful daughters, all heterosexual and all very normal, who have two mothers - and have since the youngest was two, the oldest was seven. It caused them a few problems along the way with a (suprisingly few) students/other parents, a couple of teachers, and one born-again bitch of a principal who disrespected my daughter, her mother, and me - and who is no longer the principal of one of the "plum" magnet high schools on account of it - although I'm sure she enjoys the challenge of working with the discipline probems of an urban school district.
We told the kids what's what from the time they FIRST asked. They were bright, inquisitive little shits who would have seen through us in a minute if we'd tried lies like 'roommates."
I understand why adults who have trouble getting around the fact that not all families are traditionally nuclear would advocate lying to kids. Just because THEY are very slow doesn't mean that mosts children are. I have never thought that was a good idea. My ex's lover is a bitch and a half, but I never allowed my kids to play on the fact that I felt that way (they all tried) - I knew she loved the kids, and I backed her up when necessary the same way I did their biological mother.
