How is this fucking up the kid? Being honest with them? Is the child supposed to lie? Are the women supposed to completely change who they are and what they do because their kid might tell someone at school they are gay? Give me a BREAK! Children at 5 can learn the reality of situations, kids at 7 even more so. There is NO reason the child should have been punished for explaining the situation when he wasn't being rude or derrogatory. I've heard 7 years old spout some pretty terrible things. How is this one of them?
I think it's better to be honest with a child, and punishing him about the realities of his family situation is NOT going to help matters. Perhaps taking the child aside and explainign to him that not everyone is COMFORTABLE with it or something, in terms he could understand, sure. But PUNISHING HIM?
I think his "mothers" did something right telling him the reality. Lying to children for any reason is absolutely not the way to do things, especially about sensitive and integral family situations.
I was raised my entire life without my father, and I think I'm a pretty well-rounded and good person. I don't see how the lack of a father in any way is going to change a situation if a child is well-loved and treated well. Apparently families that aren't perfect nuclear families according to society's standards just aren't acceptable? And how about all the fathers out there that are useless pieces of shit? I'd say some kids would be better OFF without their fathers.. the same can be said about EITHER sex of parent.
