traner !

I've had back problems in the past, and I have a bad ankle still.

Is there something that would be better for me than a bike? I was walking 3 or 4 miles 4 or 5 times a week, but winter is here, and honestly, my ankle was getting bad, so I was going to have to find something else anyways.

I don't know dick about gym equipment. But I figured the bike would be easiest on my ankle. Is that right?

Yes a Bike would be easy on your ankles ! If you have back problems then you should consider a recumbent cycle.

I too have bad ankles and a bum knee ! I own a bike and an Elliptical trainer. Both are very easy on all your joints. BUt the big problem with bikes are that they tend to get boring ! I hardly use my bike compared to my elliptical. Another big thing to consider is getting something to keep you motivated !

XXXphoto gave some excelent advise , Join a gym (take a one week trial) try all the equipment ! figure out what you like and dislike about each of the equipment and find a specialty store that will guide you proprely towards what your needs are !

Good equipment will cost you an arm and a couple of toes , So you should really know what you want before you dish out that cash !
