Well... it'd be one thing if he just USED painkillers, but it appears he had such a habit that he was having his housekeeper procure "Hillbilly Heroin" on the street.
Imagine that, Mr. right-wing law-abiding citizen participating in the shadow economy in a big way. You'd think he'd do what most other rich & famous folks do: simply get a few doctors to write multiple prescriptions for his drug of choice.
I detest Rush (the persona), and I admit it's kinda fun to poke fun at him, but an addiction to Oxycontin (the housekeeper said some days he was taking 30 tabs) is really no laughing matter. That shit kills... even people who ARE taking it as prescribed. I lost one of my best friends 2 years ago, at the age of 38. The last thing her doctor prescribed for her was Oxycontin. Within weeks the drug had built up in her system until the day she went to lie down for a nap, and a few hours later her husband found her dead. Doctored to death.
Regardless of my personal opinion of Rush, as a fellow human being I can only wish him the best on his road to recovery. Better to get there and have to deal with criminal charges than to wind up dead before anyone knows there's a problem.
