Buff, I'm not going to bite and play a numbers game with you.

Yes, there is a very real threat from Islamic fundamentalists. I don't think that all subscribe to that brand of Islam. You take the simple-minded approach. Not suprising, actually; - it is easier as it deesn't require anything complex, like thought. There are a lot of people who share your approach today - some of them because they are incapable of thought, some of them because it fits very well into whatever particular agenda they are trying to push forward.

The biggest problem I have is that putting something as simple-minded as your point of view into action as policy is the wet dream of the Islamic fundamentalists. Folks like you want us to become the most effective recruiter they have.
PD:

Look, I would agree with you if you said something like...

"Most leftists are basically good people who are simply misguided. It's only the fringe like the ELF Greenies, or the NAMBLAites, or the race-baiters, or the radical atheists who really mean to be malicious."

I can agree with that, because I believe it to be true -- most leftists are leftists by default: they never learned economics, and they think central planning is a viable means of sustaining human existence.

But Islam is not similar. Have you ever seen the polls in Saudi Arabia or Egypt? They DESPISE us (and sometimes rightfully so). They also despise the rest of the world which is not under the Sharia. And we're not talking about a radical fringe. We're talking about your average Mo. He thinks the West is evil and that as long as the West is allowed to exist as is, Allah will be pissed.

Now, the more Westernized Muslims tend to be more peaceful and less radical. Your average Iranian hates his rulers. I concede this. Your average Muslim Turk is pretty well integrated into the 21st century, intellectually.

But go down the list: Palestine, Jordan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Yemen (I'll leave out the conflicts due as much in part to regional issues as religion -- Chechnya, Indonesia, etc.) -- these are very bellicose people. The empirical evidence speaks for itself.
