My pop psychology view would be along the lines of those coming up with the man was her sister are fairly well grounded and balanced and think along the lines of mystery novels - Agatha Christie and the like

My answer of the man was her sister's husband shows I am a little unbalanced or different and think along the lines of sick movies and lit such as Pulp Fiction and Natural Born Killer

sarettah's answer just reminds me to be nice to him (he he he) and not to sit next to him at the dinner table when sharp implements are handy oh yeah and sarettah's very logicial thinking, yeah that's it

Am sure there are much better technical answers for this than what I am coming up with

we can assume she knows her sister... Therefore if we assume that the statement "she did not know" is true, then the guy being her sister cannot possibly be valid.

If the guy was her sister's husband, once again we can assume she knows her sister and how to get a hold of her... therefore if we assume that the statement the "she could not find him" is true we can rule out the sister's husband as again being invalid......

hence, I am left with the fact that the guy showed up at her mother's funeral, therefore she can assume that the guy has some connection of some sorts to the family and therefore if she can arrange another funeral in the family, the guy might show up....

Poifectly reasonable and logical right down the line.... sheez...

btw, they don't let me have sharp objects here
