Just thinking about it and realized that I knew what Blue Balls were and I knew what blacklisted was, but I had never given much thought to blackballed, although I have heard the expression many times....

It's a masonic thing.
When you try to join all the other members have a white and a black ball, they each put one in a bag, if a blackball is pulled out the bag,
you are not accepted into the group.
