I used to get ICQ spam all the time, until I checked a little box that said "don't accept messages from people not on your contact list". If people would start assigning trust levels to senders and not just pretend like people will be responsible about what they send.
I'm not saying spammers are good, I'm saying the people that complain about spam should either be realistic and do something PRODUCTIVE about stopping it.
If someone is dumb enough to just whine and complain about spam, rather than finding a solution that works deserves to have their time wasted!!!

You have no logic to your point ... especially if you have to resort to calling people dumb to conclude it.
Those who complain about spam ARE doing something realistic and productive - they are complaining about it, and TRYING to filter it. That's productive, because when enough people complain things happen. Not just things like spam being stopped at the source, but things like new software being written by folks who see a need in the market, things like aol & microsoft teaming up etc ...

You think people get their time wasted because they are dumb!!??!? Um ...... rrrriiiiiight ... its got nothing to do with the fact that spam is completely out of control at all!! Not every Internet user works with the Internet on a daily basis - the group you are surrounded by here are far from dumb when it comes to the Internet and its issues. Your 'sit back and watch' attitude is fine for you oh great computer genius, but what about the rest of the world that use their email for business? Who pays for the expertise to set up the spam solution?
I've got someone on their way to your place to throw rotten eggs at your front door for a few hours ... if you don't want them to do that i suggest you put a plastic cover over your entire house. I can sell you a large plastic dome for 1.2 million that should do the trick ... you'd be dumb not to buy it, because otherwise you'll have rotten eggs everywhere
