maybe it would be different if the Middle East rose up and went nuts... then Iran and others would feel empowered. i think the opposite is happening. there is not enough opposition to action in Iraq, to strengthen them and their own faltering governments. If the US works quickly to establish an Iraqi government and return power to Iraqis - it will be just like Afghanistan where all the opposition COMPLETELY fades away... and all you are left with is rebuilt schools, international aid, returned human rights and a better life.

Think about this, Afghanistan was a fucked deal because it was already a shitty place to be. There was no industry there except growing poppys in fields of rocks. Iraq has almost 15% of the worlds oil reserves. That means the have industrial strength cash machines and infrastructure in place already to pump the economy full of cash. its mostly just a question of where and how to spend it.

Thats gonna suck even more for concerned governments in the region. I imagine thats the plan. There is going to be even more pressure put on them other than the obvious threat of being bombed into oblivian if they want to be shitty. they are gonna have a truly amazing success story right in the middle of them. - a story of freedom and wealth.

How will the average Syrian, Iranian, Saudia Arabian or other feel about that? How is a muslim cleric going to channel anger towards the US when it finally becomes undeniable that the problem is at home?
