Colin, you ask "Why can the US have WMDs and not anyone else?"
The US doesn't go around gassing people for the hell of it. Yes, we have WMDs - a helluva lot of them - but we don't use them say, like Saddam uses his.

Who gets to make this decision as to who is responsible enough and who isn't? Why? The whole point of my post is to show that there are two sides to any of these issues and I think that each side is arguing from a valid viewpoint, theirs. The US and a few other powers-that-be are leveraging their power in order to keep the game rigged in their favor. Not that I think there is anything wrong with that. That's the way the world is.
The US has a long and sordid history of using WMD.
What changed? I don't think the US is suddenly on a higher moral plane. I think that the reason we don't use WMD is that we are so good with our conventional weapons that we try and force everyone to play by the rules that most benefit us.
I don't think there's such thing as "responsible use" of weapons. It's self-interest. I hardly consider killing tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers "responsible use".
I am very pro-war. 100%. As much as you. There's a reality to be faced here though. Thousands of bullets and bombs do cause mass destruction and suffering. The game is rigged in our favor.
