LA Mike, more border patrol isn't politically correct these days, as it would "unfairly single out the illegal immigrants from hispanic countries..." which would cost the person putting into effect MANY votes come the next election.
On a short 4 year election cycle (shorted to about 2.5 years in power, 1.5 years campaigning), it is unlikely that anything will get done like this - add to that the off year elections in house and senate, and you pretty much don't have a time in American politics that people aren't sucking up for votes.
Considering that Bush got in with less of the popular vote, and the difference in Florida was VERY small all considered, the hispanic vote could have shifted the whole thing.
So, instead, you get to pay more taxes to support more illegal immigrants - fun, isn't it? :-)
