i am a firm believer in teaching them....trying to "protect" kids/teens from the realities of the world usually induce them into thinking and acting directly the oposite of what you would prefer. You can apply the same question to explaining what we do for a living, or the 'birds and the bees' , drinking, or even the responsibility of getting a drivers license.
