A few points from the 'home front'
Have I ever done a show I have been happy with?
No.... things can always be better....
What are the goals when I do a show?
1. That the exhibitors and Sponsors get their money's worth, for the COST involved. 2. That the attendees have the ability to network easily, hopefully make some new deals that will enhance their business, and go home with fond memories.
What are NOT the goals:
To make the show so expensive that 'only the elite can attend, sponsor or exhibit. I believe that 'the Island gathering already fits that need very nicely.
Truths that are self evident: Established companies do NOT want to exhibit anymore. They will only do so under extreme pressure, to express egos, or 'to keep up with their competitiers. Baaa baaa...... You very seldom see the company owners hanging around the booth very long any more. They are tired of dealing with the 'grass roots, and soon form their own little groups to entertain themselves, and do business between themselves. It does not matter how big or how small the event is, there is no longer the same level of intermingling that many webmasters go to the shows for.
The conference part of most conventions are not well attended:
1. The day of sharing meaningful information is pretty much gone.
2. Attendees are too busy with networking, drinking, gambling, or SLEEPING.
Shows are what the particpiants make of them.
The exhibitor core sets the tone ......... entertainment or business. The sponsors look for a particuliar target group and do parties or receptions that will apeal to that segment.
The attendees have the choice of using it for a learning experience and a business builder, or the chance to meet friends and party. The wise have the disipline to do both.
So, why do I bother? Because I care! When I set in the hospitality areas and hear people tell me that they made the 'deal of their life, that one of my
shows changed their life, or changed the way they do buisness, I am momentarily rejuvinated that 'I made a difference. Many have supported me because they do not want to see a Adult show monopoly, and I am the only show company standing in the way of that happening. But, it all comes down to one thing: When it is not perceived by the exhibitors, the sponsors, or the attendees - that the shows make a difference......... then I no longer 'make a difference.......... and I am gone!
