Playboy posts steep loss, will consider company sale

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Playboy Enterprises Inc, publisher of one of the world's best known adult magazines, posted a wider fourth-quarter loss, hurt by $157.2 million in restructuring and other one-time costs, as well as weaker-than-expected revenue.

The company, which posted a net loss in each quarter of 2008, also said it would be open to discussions about an outright sale of the company, or changes in the strategic direction of the flagship Playboy Magazine.

Net loss for Playboy, which in recent months has seen a management shake-up including the resignation in December of longtime Chief Executive Christie Hefner, was $145.7 million, or $4.37 per share. This compares with a loss of $1.1 million, or 3 cents a share, in the year-ago period.

Sold is a little word that in this case means "offload the piece of shit before it goes bankrupt" or something similar.

Not that I often defend much about GFY, but in reality that's probably one of the few profitable ventures they have going unless they've gone batshit crazy with salaries.

GFY is a money making board, still. Those skins and banners add up. I have even managed to do quite a bit of business there. Playboy really blew it though as far as their brand. Shame really.

I think weve all managed to make money there. Theres a reason those would ya hit it threads were so popular.

Was a great place in the day to find new programs and stuff but those have long been gone. Its been replaced by sissy boys going from one mood drug swing to the next.

I was raised different and have more pride than to have to use a drug or a therapist to deal with life when it gets tough.

And lets call it like it is. Adult.com was ineffective at promoting playboy.com but Lens was smart enought to have written the contract where it was cheaper to buy the company than to severe the deal.

In the spirit of being fair I dont know ANY affiliate management company that could have been effective with the restrictions they lay down.

Whens the last time youve ever seen a playboy webmasters banner or booth at a show either?

The worlds most recognized adult brand cant make a profit there is something bad bad wrong.

Well, what you you rather promote? A site like Playboy or somethign that is a bit edgier but in a similar vein like FTV Girls? I know to me there's no question I'd rather promote FTV Girls. They have amazing olo girl content that goes further than Playboy does. Hell, their magazine style covers they use to promote their models look as good, if not much better than, anything you'd ee from playboy and people get those great solo girl scenes.

Ive made money with FTV Girls in the past.
Ive never made a nickel from Playboy.
