Poll: 75% glad Bush is done

Seventy-five percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Friday said they're glad Bush is going; 23 percent indicated they'll miss him.

"Earlier this year, Bush scored some of the lowest presidential approval ratings we've seen in half a century, so it's understandable that the public is eager for a new president to step in," said Keating Holland, CNN polling director.
I am wondering is that 23 percent is a group made of comedians, radio personalities, new writers, third world leaders, and shareholders of Haliburton.

Obama has his work cut out for him.

Deep recession, what's left of a war to clean up, an unemployment rate sneaking dangerously close to 8%, failing financial institutions, a credit freeze, 11 trillion dollars in debt and a country in general on the bring of a depression.

And he'll be tested by Putin, Iran or North Korea within his first 18 months.

Elections over, I hope he's as good as his fanatical followers believe he is.

The only good things for Obama is (a) the shit all happened before he got into office, and (b) falling oil revenues make it almost impossible for any of those countries to do anything serious.

Russia in particular is a very difficult case. They were feeling all good on $140 oil and with the US military tied up in Iraq. Now they are looking at 3% gdp deficits and even higher.

Obama would be really smart to start a "be patriotic, save oil and gas" program, encouraging people to continue to move to smaller cars and stuff to keep the price of oil down, which in turn removes much of the power of Russia, the middle east, and nutjobs like Chavez. They can't keep propping things up if they don't have income. $25 a barrel oil pretty much puts all of them back on the ropes.

Bush is so unpopular that Obama will be able to blame everything on him for the first couple of years :)

Look at it this way. The alternatives are what got us in this world wide crisis. Imagine 4 more years of president Cheney.
Those guys were incompetent in the extreme, but you voted for them and most countries get the governments they deserve. You had a ton of opportunities to turf these assholes, but only when it started to cost citizens money did they care. As long as they were living on borrowed time they didn't give a fast flying fuck that they were living off crooked financials. American hubris was at its zenith.

Then there are the winners. Haliburton comes to mind and when they saw the writing on the wall and had wrung America dry, they moved lock, stock and barrel to Dubai....and still no one said a word and they are untouchable.

Now there is the bail outs....even more public money into the sewer.

Here is a sound financial plan. Force the oil companies and war profiteers to bail out the auto companies and the crooked financial institutions.
Capitalists should walk it like they talk it. You know, let the market take care of itself instead of being corporate welfare bums.

But the people have got to take the most responsibility for this debacle. Either that, or there is a fatal flaw in the democratic system. There are no shades of grey.

So, checks and balances are a total failure. A bunch of wise guys 250 years ago were not equipped for today's global economy when they wrote the Constitution.

Question is how do we fix the system. Get that right and the financial meltdown will take care of itself.

Gecko was wrong. Greed is not good. This is the result of greed
