Does anyone else see the redudance of "NASA" and "geek" in the same sentence? Mind you, I've always been one, but nevertheless... :)

Hey Emp. I have been on the Space Station and Space Shuttle training mock up, mission control and hung out with the astronauts discussing their space missions. Here is a couple of things that NASA won't tell you. One of their major concerns is astronauts having sex on the Mars mission as well as the current orbitals and space station (and they believe this has already happened). When Shannon Lucid was on Mir breaking records, her biggest complaint was that the cosmonauts smoked endless stinky Russian cigarettes.
I once talked directly to cosmonauts on the Mir station every time they overflew Kuwait in the first Gulf war instructing them on how to use and where to point their video camera with a ginormous lens so we could see where the B52's were flying and where the oil well fires were. Some were in Saudia. Little known facts.
And you don't think I am a Geek.....

I consulted for NASA on the materials & processes for the ablative materials used for the Space Shuttle heat shield tiles. Needless to say, they didn't listen and decided to stay with 40 year old technology! And people actually get surprised when these things blow up! F'n whole shuttle was designed by committee, and lets just say, NASA doesn't attract the brightest boys.

Pay and benefit wise, NASA just can't compete with the private sector, and all the best guys go elsewhere. They may start over at NASA, but once they put up with the bureaucracy for a while, the crappy pay, and management with their heads up their asses, they just move on. Only the Dullards stay.

I think, by definition, everyone here has a little geek in them.
Not only does NASA think about sex in orbit and long term, they are exploring solutions.
I have no problem at all, with the military advantage of controlling space.
There is more than one launchpad in Florida, and elsewhere.

Yup. They are in China. Russia. India. Belize. And most of the current space vehicles are sitting ducks and will most likely be the first casualty.
