Screen Resolution?
For years I built my sites for 800x600. Last September my PC bit the big one, and I had to get a new one, so I got a new monitor at the same time. It's a wide screen, so I'm now running it at 1440x900. The problem is when building sites if I build for what my screen will hold, it will ether be a side scroll for most others, or everything will get all jumbled up. Since the new screen, I've been making a table of 760 width, and building my sites inside of that.
At what screen size do y'all buid your sites for now? Sorry for all the recent questions, I'm really not new to all this, just getting into some areas I've never tried before  |
Re: Screen Resolution?
I'd been building sites at 800x600 up until last June, when I had an epiphany.
While at Cybernext Expo and then visiting some friends near Daytona I had to use my laptop for nearly a week. It has a wide screen 1260x768. I noticed that all the 90x120 thumbs on my TGP's were damn hard to see. That got me thinking, and when I finally returned home I investigated further. What I discovered upon checking site stats, was that less than 8% of my surfers were using 800x600 or lower resolutions, while almost 24% were using resolutions higher than 1024x768. I spent the next couple of weeks reworking the layouts on all of my TGPs to fit a 1024 wide screen rather than an 800 wide screen, plus I increased the thumb size from 90x120 to 120x160. There was an immediate increase in traffic and conversions as a result. |

Going to a larger monitor, and still keeping the sites at 800x600 makes them look all cramped up. I could get so much more with a wider build. |
