Yeah, but with as flaky as some of us programmers can be, and as a programming manager myself, I understand the "want" to keep things inhouse when possible.

I would probably drop a line on this one except that there is no way I can move east until the daughter is a little older (unless it was a GREAT offer like 25% increase or so which would put it into close to the mid six figure mark and I don't think AEBN is paying that much for programmers)

I do understand that in-house positions can be a bitch.

If we ran two or three sites, etc, I could see contracting.

However, with a staff of 230+ people and a huge number of projects and sites, it's almost impossible to manage outside workers, especially for programming.

It's possible a webmaster could contract, but managing that would add so much overhead it's probably not worth it. That webmaster would be working on multiple sites, and doing task management would take up waaay too much time.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure AEBN has more than enough work to keep a fulltimer busy for a long time, and a lot of proprietary information to protect. In those cases contractors do not make as much sense even in this industry.

What they really need is a satellite office in Atlanta. ;)
