Fire 'em up San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO -- The first-ever "Wonders of Cannabis Festival and Exhibition" is drawing thousands of people to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. It's organized by marijuana activist Ed Rosenthal, who says he wants to underscore what he sees as the public's right to use pot.According to Rosenthal, 750,000 Americans were arrested last year for marijuana offenses. He calls that "a waste of money, a waste of lives and a waste of psyche." He says cannabis has lots of uses for humans and "should be celebrated."The event, which concludes Sunday, features medical and legal consultants, cooking demonstrations and a joint rolling competition.Speakers include comedian Tommy Chong, of "Cheech and Chong" fame. He spent nine months in prison on a marijuana-related conspiracy conviction

Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
Here's an interesting thought I just had and couldn't come up with an answer.
Name one really successful pot smoker? I can name a few that never lived up to there promise because they became stoners. I'm not talking about the occasional toker , I mean hardcore stoners. |
Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
i just go to sleep. not very productive.

I have worked ( I use the term loosely) with people who light a joint in the morning , they are pretty much are totally useless but insist they come up with really good ideas. They do and they don't.They come up with 100 moronic ideas and 1 good one which you tend to ignore anyway because of the other 100. |

Though I pretty much agree with you, Nick. Just to be a devil's advocate ... Hunter S. Thompson? Timothy Leary? Tom Hayden became a US Senator ... Probably a lot of famous writers. Painters? Dali had to be on something! http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/smile.gif |
Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
I can't even smoke a joint, the smell alone makes me whitey... thank fuck.

Good one, Red!! Again, I suspect it doesn't hurt the creative (artist/singer/painter/etc) mind as much. I doubt you'd see Gates, Jobs (hmm, those iMacs are pretty colorful and funky ....), Trump, Wynn, Mellon, Rockefeller or Carnegie listed as smokers though. |
Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
Howard Marks
WB Yeats Lewis Carrol Oscar Wilde Alexander Dumas Victor Hugo Honore de Balzac Charles Baudelaire Also quite possibly William Shakespeare |

Stoners think they are. |

George Washington.
Thomas Jefferson. Maybe Ben Franklin (but he might have just been a drunk too) :okthumb: |
Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
There is a difference between trying it , having a puff once in a while and being a stoner imho.

I would imagine if you were growing some 60,000 acres a season (which Jefferson was), and it was a common ingredient in many many of the medicines of the time (which it was) then you were probably more than a "take a toke every now and again" and more akin to "I smoke this stuff for a living".. Just imhso of course............ |
Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
I love watching all the old stoners try and defend there vice...

Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
It's been 13 years (and six days, if you want to get precise) since I last smoked, drank or used any substance not perscribed by a doctor. Smoking pot is the only thing I still miss every once in a while.
That being said - after using it regularly for about 15 years it began to do nothing but make me hungry and a little paranoid. I could and did get some great creative ideas when stoned. Never had much success bringing them to fruition unless I was straight, however; and more than half the time, the flash of brilliance turned out to be far less bright in the cold light of day. |
Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
Medical marijuana has a lot of sound uses. However, it is specific in its function. I've used it for pain and it works, however, I can't function at all during the few times I used it. The first time I tried it and attempted to work, I couldn't. It took enormous effort to hit the correct keys while trying to write html. I never tried to work while using it again. I was given a small amount to try and I still have most of it. I'd rather be in pain than out of control like that. I hate that feeling.
People who use it for "recreational" purposes should treat it the same way they do alchohol and not attempt to do any work. You can't work drunk and you can't work stoned. Overindulging in anything is a great way to ruin your life. The only drug I've ever abused was the "speed" that was available in the early to mid 70's. I had nights where I'd stay up writing. The words flowed like water. When I read them the next day I couldn't believe the amount of drivel I'd written and threw it out. I had thought I was on a "creative high." I wasn't. I was just high. I have had real "creative highs." They were not induced by any drug, just that rush of creativity that happens to a functioning brain. |
Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco

If I felt the need to defend, I would. Back to the original question. You will never know how many really successful folks are loadies because the folks who smoke dope for a living don't necessarilly talk about it all that much. Always a good rule of thumb to follow, if you are doing something illegal, don't yak about it :okthumb: |
Re: Fire 'em up San Francisco
My theory on drugs is like this
If your ICQ is 125 and after years of frying your brain you're left with 115. You're still Good and smart enough. If your ICQ is 115 and after frying your brains your left with 105. That you're simply end up as a retard. --------- Or as my very good friend Stoner once said, we use 10% of our brains, the other 90% is for drug consumption. Oh he's not a stoner anymore, but Smokey is still very Smokey :) |
