Seems someone got a little drunk and started forcing himself on the girls at a recent show. If he was representing your company would you fire his ass?
|
Looks like the old demon alchol has struck again...
|
If there was proof and complaints as to behaviour and drunken nature, then without a doubt.
|
Damn right I would!
Getting tanked is one thing but getting tanked and harassing women isn’t acceptable or good company PR. |
Hahahah.. love the poll options!! Classic...

We've tried firing Gabe for getting drunk and feeling up all the guys, but he's a Mexican, in California.....need I say more?
|
I think it would depend alot on other factors... Such as how drunk was he ... Was he being unprofessional... Did you tell him not to get drunk.... The list goes on. There would be alot of variable to take in prior to an automatic firing.
I haven't been to a show in oh like 6 years and it was the only one I went to but from what I hear these shows can get pretty crazy in some circumstances and to be honest - a Rep who knows hwo to party and liven up the party is an asset as long as he isn't pushing the lines... |
The kid didn't get fired, though, he went back home and then resigned.
People do stupid things at shows, we all have our moments... that was pretty bad, but I'm not entirely sure what I'd have done about it were I his boss. |

I wasn't there, but that's the reports. I like Rinaldo, I've never seen him drunk. I feel for everyone invloved, on a personal note I know firsthand how binges and addictions can affect one personally, and professionally. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for him. |
Dunno him...but I'm sure I've done worse.
Everyone fucks up. To err is human , to forgive , divine :) However as Ant says this is a wake up call , some listen to the alarm and turn there lives around.Others don't. If it was my rep ( and I say this now that I'm clean and sober of course) I'd chat with him (ie coat him to within an inch of his life ) and offer options. Option 1. Stop drinking continue employment , with every help an assistance. Option 2. Continue being a drunken bum , leave the corp and hope he nevers serves me at Mickey D's. However... In 2001 I prolly would have appointed him to the board ;-)) Difference is , and I know this to be true....drunk and partying income = $0.00 if your lucky...its actually negative... Clean and sober , frankly , you can OWN this industry. :) |
Personally, if I had a rep who did the above, I'd give him two options. They'd be:
1) You resign. or 2) I fire you. No excuse. Why is this industry any different than other industries? Sure, we have a hefty contingent of "webmasters" who belong to the Zoo Crew and aren't really in this as a business. That doesn't mean that the businesspeople amongst us don't have to conduct themselves as businesspeople. Give me a fucking break. I've seen so many people at shows and show parties that I immediately made mental notes about, to the effect of "do not ever work with or hire that guy/girl." <_< |
How do you professionally force yourself on women?

Am going to guess this was a kid
Good rule of thumb, if you're there as a rep for a company you don't own Don't get DRUNK in public Would I fire him? Most likely but not for that reason But I do also like the line of thinking, either go to AA or rehab or get fired |

I guess working for me would be a real "buzz kill," as the kiddies say. :grrr: |

LOL Its the nature of the business IMHO. I can name loads of people who can add multiple zeros onto yr bottomline that you'd fire in the first day LOL |

Stop riding the high horses, 'cuz when you fall off them - it huits :)
Exactly!!! WTF do I people think Inever go to shows!!?? Stonecold clean and sober , I ain't the most quiet and staid person in the world.. LOL |
My first knee-jerk reaction would be to fire him.
My second thought would be to find as much information about the incident as possible. Was it repeated many times during the show? Once? Was it over and over an entire night? Was it once for five minutes, then he passed out? Was in at 3am with a few people around? Was it at 10am on the show floor? ... There are degrees. Again, I'd still be heavily wieghted towards the firing side of the equation, but I would first want to know "the degree" of the situation as to make the most informed choice. |

What about if you paid him , 100k and he earned you 250k ? :) Basically what you are saying is you have the morals you can afford , and confirming you like the rest of us are a whore. The only variable is the dollar amount ;-))) |
ehh if that was the worst thing I ever did drunk I'd be a lot better off mentally than I am now lol
Depends how forceful he was getting. If he was just being a happy idiot I'd laugh at him for a week and bring him to the next show. If he was being a rapist I'd can him and maybe kick his ass too. One of my employees got drunk at the last big show, hooked up with this black prostitute and she wouldn't let any of the guys sharing his room come in unless they were gonna pay for a blowjob too. When she left she took his wallet and his weed with her. I just mocked him for a while and let it go ;) |

Absolutely! He was in a business enviorment. It does'nt matter what line of business you're in, one must show respect.

Heck I am glad I have never got that drunk !
|
I learned my lesson at the show in Florida last year. I got pretty tanked at Circue De Noir and fucked up a conversation that could have been a real booster for me personally. I think drinking and shows really don't mix if you can't control what you're having. To my credit, I was partying with ToyBoy. And there is no middle speed with him. It's either stop or full throttle. ;)
|
A lot of it depends on if he was on the clock or not. I realize that for many companies, during shows, all reps are considered "on the clock" and I would think that most reps would assume that during the show they are representing their company.
But there is grey area to be found there. |
First tour in the Navy I went to a "hump" (half-way through a deployment) party and explained to the CO and XO how to better run the squadron. I didn't drink at official command functions after that.
First real job after I got out of the Navy I nearly missed my plane coming back from San Diego - fortunately for me, the people in whose driveway I'd parked my rental car before I passed out went to work early. I always wished I'd known where that was so I could have thanked them properly. I never drank at trade shows after that (but I always managed to take a couple days vacation after I got back). I don't think there are nearly as many variables as others do. MAYBE if he's very young and it was his first show, blah-blah-blah, you can give him another chance. If it's somebody who's been around the block a few times, or it's somebody you know likes to party - it's either "no shows for you", or "hey, hit the highway." |

Welcome to Oprano. ;-))) LOL.. Remember the film when some chick gets a million bucks for fucking Robert Redford and there was this big debate over it? well , I got ejected from the cinemafor screaming : "I'll do it!!" "Fuck , I'm even prepared to negotiate down!!!" "And!!!!! I'm a fucking virgin" But , I'll reiterate.. Anyone on this board can fuck me in the ass for USD 1 m. hmmm actually ,thinking about it...I think Serge did fuck me in the ass for a couple of million. ;-))) |

Stop riding the high horses, 'cuz when you fall off them - it huits :)
In addition to this excellent point, the entire story really is not being told. First and foremost, from my perspective, I agree entirely with what Serge said. To further counter those hanging him out to dry, I have witnessed all to often program owners, site owners and reps coming back from shows sounding off with righteous rhetoric on boards and laughed to myself as they were the ones parading around the lobby on cocaine, ecstacy, and alcohol. I have been drunk at shows. I have done so with some of the biggest people around. I have also been sober at shows. Deal is, the business is done on both fronts. Some of the biggest traffic sites around are owned by people that are not bound by conventional professionalism. I would say if you rule someone out for not being sober at a show, you likely limited your business potential to some degree. But to each there own. I drink at shows. I have a good time. I try not to cross the line. I also do not judge those that choose to do more than drink. Me? I don't. But the path of the righteous is not always as promising as it seems from the exterior. Moving on. I really had no inclination to respond to this (or any) of the threads spawned from the said event, but this thread changed my mind. This is my perspective: He got very drunk at a show. He ravaged and harrassed several models and affiliate reps in front of significant others whom attempted to stop him. He got aggressive with them verbally. Is this groundbreaking show behavior? Not in the slightest. Was it wrong? It sure was. Here is the issue, in my opinion. He came back from the show, and was confronted regarding the issue and he denied it. He denied the accounts of what is actually more than two industry couples. Further than denying them, he made a critical error by going into Vanilla's thread on G$fy and making an insulting remark about her. He did so in a thread that obviously meant something to her. That was stupid, immature and unclassy. Serge, Nick and KK are dead on in saying we have all been there. Maybe not because you had too much to drink, but maybe the way you behaved on a board. But what makes you a pro is being able to come forward and say you are sorry. He was unable to do that. That is the reason I would let someone go. I am very close to both Vanilla and Stewie, and I can assure you with highest confidence that none of this would have been made public had he said nothing, even less an apology. I spoke with her last night on the phone, and to say the absolute least, she was not happy about all of this. I think at the end of the day, she would have lived with "hey, I was drunk, I am sorry about that." Wouldn't most of us? Now, he brought them bad PR, but was it because of what he did or how he reacted afterwards? Thing about it. ThrobX, I have known you for a long time. I do however respectfully disagree with your view. As much as I agree that this is a business processing transactions like any other business, it is still built around the sex industry, in some cases even a seedy side of the sex industry. I remember my first show, I was absolutely baffled seeing prominent guys in the hotel lobbies picking up trashy hookers and walking up to their rooms in front of everyone. This is an industry whereas parties are often times thrown at strip clubs, or even at brothels in many cases. The threshold for professionalism is more liberal. That said, cases like this will occur with more frequency. What is important is that people still respect certain, more liberal limitations. Just my thoughts on it. (ThrobX, can you email me? I would like your icq again...) cory@integralnet.com |
Fucking crazy the shit some people do at these shows!!! Jesus!!
