Eight countries since 1990 are known to have executed prisoners who were under 18 years old at the time of the crime – China, Congo (Democratic Republic), Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, USA and Yemen.

China, Pakistan and Yemen have raised the minimum age to 18 in law, and Iran is reportedly in the process of doing so.

I'm pro life.

I don't believe in the death penalty as I don't believe the state has any right to take away that which they cannot give back. That said it annoys the hell otu of me that, especially christian conservatives, believe that kids have to have their "innocence" protected from all manner of things in the classrom and on tv, etc. etc. but when it comes to the ultimate unishment they want kids as young as can be to be treated like adults. The hypocrisy drives me nuts.

To say a 16 year old is not as responsible for a serious crime as an 18 year old does not make sense.

If you commit a hanous crime, you should suffer the consequences.

Part of the problem with the world now is the lawyers and gov'ts have made everything so safe and antiseptic now - that Darwinism is begining to fail.

Bottom line is we have too many stupid people inhabiting planet, and they are growing old and mating with other stupid people and producing litters of REALLY stupid people.

Using the same logic, you can say a 14 year old should be held as responsible as a 16 year old.

And a 12 year old as a 14.. etc until you are executing new borns for murder because their mother died during delivery.

There is no rehabilitation for "true" sociopaths. It's a real problem when any society produces a significant number of them.

But, of course, the concept of the death penalty as a deterrant is pure bullshit, because almost no one who commits capital crimes is thinking that there will be ANY punishment, much less the ultimate one. If you don't think of any punishment, how can a more severe punishment act as a deterrent?
