I thought yesterday and looked through the thread I think maybe gonzo started about what kind of music people like.. and it was cool.. it brought back all kinds of memories.

For those of you that don't know me, hello!

I'm dokk. aka the dokkster, the dokkatolah of rokk n' rollah, paul the computer guy, rp, and lots of really cool nasty names and funny ones by mistake like dikk...

Anyway... i did a little time in the strip club scene, did a little time with net radio and did some stuff with talk radio and video.. oh blah blattiy blah .. that stuff....


Okay.. enough for the intro for those who didn't know me from adam's housecat, now udo!

But that wasn't what I wanted to post to u about 2day.

It's about music and flow.. between the two is made kind of a special magic.

Please bear with me, i'll try not to bore u, I promise!

From the posts in the thread the obvious became the more obvious.. no2peeps alike, no2peeps liking all sos, some with very intense feelings about the music they like and .. lolll.. even let's say a tad more emotional about the music they like and other people don't!

You really really really REALLY cannot please all peeps, all times, esp w/music.

BUT!!!!

U def can plz all the peepallthetime if u establish a flow.. and that's series of pieces that takes the listener on a ride.. it could start with any song, could end with any song, could have almost any song somewhere in between.. BUT!!!

It must.. flow.. I mean like maple syrup over hot buttered pancakes.

You can do anything from Glen Miller and Gene Krupa to Seven Mary Three, Dead Kennedys', Godsmack, and even.. yes even the much hated but still talked about Milli Vanilli (lollllllll)

For example, you'd never expect to hear "Dead Skunk In The Middle Of The Road" in a stripclub but you can bet ya last dollah we had fun with it and played it at the right time (don't need to go into details... lol).. because it was flowing with the people and with the vibe in the room.

Once we took a little Godzilla toy thing that would walk and his eyes would light up and were having some fun with it in the club.. it was.. needless to say a bit of a slow night.. the customers .. well, they weren't tipping and i'd rather not go into details about how dancers feel about not making money. U figure it out.. lol

So.. we took the little toy, put a garter belt on it, took all the girls off the tables and off the stage.. started the smoke gen, did the light thing.. and out comes this little wobbing toy with Blue Oyster Cult's "Godzilla" playing.

That thing made 40 bucks on one song.

Not bad for a toy!!!

The customers started tipping, most of the girls were laughing and happy and it ended up being.. a rather fun evening.

So.. what I'm saying is this... the crudest approach is just to segment into cats, diff tunage and then organize blah blattity blah.. and that's cool and it works pretty good.

But whatever you do, whatever tunes u use.. or don't use.. the more it flows like that sweet maple syrup, the more listeners u reach and the more they love to listen.

We spent a while taking the other night ....we gonna ease Dokk back into all of this. Organizing the flow sounds like a good idea to me!

Inabon and Siliconcanal.com has been great. All this shit you hear about doing this and how complex it is it quite bullshit. The hardest thing we had to deal with is a dead hard drive.

A little Dokk touch should make it pure magic! Lets get him hooked up next week Inabon. He has some killer ideas and loves doing it! I know Ive enjoyed listening to him over the years as well.

Back when I was running clubs, we called it breathe the room.

I think the DJ played a very vital part in it, however it was the whole package from the door to the floor, and everyone involved had a role the dancers, the bar staff, the doormen, it all went hand in hand and the dj was not just a music player, but a master of ceramonies per se, and his weapon of choice was the music flow!

a god DJ good work a crowd up to a frenzy, then slowly bring them back down to avoid a riot, then breathe out again, and work them right back up again. This of course would make the room feel electric.

I really want to DJ my own show on the net, I however need control of my own playlist of music, and the ability to play it when I want to in the show to control the FLOW of my show..

I hate these dead air, lack of something to say type of shows that are so prevelant on the different radio set ups now days I have tried on the net.

My agenda would be to talk when I had a good guest/guests , or something good to talk about, and then ROCK it out when I didn't and some days one would be more of the main verse than the other, depending on just that, the FLOW of the day!

If this is possible technology wise, then I want to do a show for a four hr stretch from like 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. one day of the week, every week and who knows what the day will bring that week, but one thing will be constant, the FLOW of the SHOW will be handled solely by JOE! :)

Gonzo, Inabon, Dokk, Anybody know if this technology is available for us yet ?

Not a problem let me get by today (i hate mondays) and tomorrow (i have a shitload of work to do at the datacenter) on wednesday i will hook up with dokk so he can start treaming and tweaking the playlist. however we still have to figure out the live broadcast obviously it cant be done from the same box the 24/7 radio is.

yup. we are using itunes i find it way superior to winamp and winblows media player (although we are using windows media encoder hehe)

thats about the only good thing to come from a mac.

Yes, but what you have now is not a "radio station". Its an mp3 server...

ahhhhh yeah i know what you mean and yes i just dumped all in there and hit random there were a couple of things we wanted to do first before getting playlist organized like making sure we could do it, making sure sound kicked ass and i have to say it does i hooked it to a big stereo and it rocked i also used my surround pc speakers and rocked. now we get busy :)
