Bored..... weather sucks...

So , I know nothing about football but this interests me :

Patriots -3
Phillie -6

20/29 Phillie scores first...
Phillie scores over 21.5 Even money.

Patriots score first 10/13

Patriots 21/20 to be over 17 points...

Whatcha think?

:)

Vick 01-23-2005 04:01 PM

If I were a betting man I'd take the Patriots -3

Raven 01-23-2005 04:18 PM

I think we all need to take a collective breath and hope that the Eagles win.

They have to win.

I'm getting old.

**** not sure if they will beat a -6 point spread, though****

if they beat the spread, as it looks it will be late., unless they can pitch a shutout from here on out.

I wouldnt touch the AFC with Nicks nubile betting hands:)

Raven 01-23-2005 04:33 PM

I am NOT going to make it through this game. It's as if the Philly football gods are punishing me for leaving Philly.

Yes. It's all about me.

Games like this make me glad I gave up betting.

grimm 01-23-2005 04:48 PM

you can always take philly -3 in the second half.

New England has dropped to a 2 point favorite as the game gets closer.

that point is the difference between a push and a win:)

:P

But I'm not a betting man
I know long term the house wins, juice gets bettors chasing

You can see where publicly where I'm over 50% for the past 4 years picking every game but ......

.... after juice I'd be even or down

That all being said, I expect (and I'm often wrong) the early line for the Super Bowl to be Patriots - 6 (or Eagles +6)

Still would take the Patriots -6
They are simply the best team in football. They have a linebacker who plays tight end, a wide receiver who plays defensive back. Serious TEAM concept
Plus the Eagles are just happy to have finally made the Super Bowl after 4 years of NFC Championship games
The Patriots want to win it for the coaches who will be leaving them
Edge to experience being in the big game

and take the Patriots to score first

Don't bet the farm and anything you lose is on you
- I pick wrong almost half the time

If you really want to make $ listen to Wig and his investment advice

Sports betters rule #1

Fear the home dog. like i said i wouldn't bet on the patriots, but i wouldn't bet on the steelers either;)

other rules include

Make your money on games of no consequence (dont bet on super bowls, championship games, etc)

Always bet on double digit home dogs, no matter what the sport.

When teams of equal defensive strengths meet, bet the over. it covers 90% of the time.

two great offenses meet.. bet the under. Both times spend so much time preparing for the others offense, it might just be their best defensive effort of the season.

Fear the half point, tease it to under a score or two scores.

If you can see a situation arise where a late, meaningless touchdown could bust the spread (spread too high in combination with half points).. stay away from it

Dont bet the spread and the o/u on the same game, odds are you'll end up just losing the vig. but worse things happen more times that good things:)

make your money on the halves. Odds are in big games, the home team will bust a first half spread, and no matter what the point spread looks like, the second half is generally exactly or as close to half the whole game spread. so use that to your advantage. It is a lot easier to bet having seen half the game...

In a close spread +/- 1 or a pick, bet the money line. If you have enough faith for the team to cover by 2 points or less, might as well get odds:)

and finally... If you are going to stress when a game gets away from you, or you can see a loss putting you in an uncomfortable spot. Don't gamble:) On every bet, you start out as a loser.

grimm 01-23-2005 10:36 PM

also, when prop bets arise, dont ignore them, but dont take them too seriously.

some good bets includes

receptions by receiver of choice if not too high (but remember that the receiver of choice often draws a crowd and its the secondary or slot that gets the catches. we shall call this the John Taylor/Brandon Stokely rule:)

Rushing yards.. if there is a consistant 100 yard rusher for an entire season, payh attention to what is on the proposition line for him

dont bet the freaking coin flip, just go play blackjack, its better odds:)

always take a field goal over a td for the first score.

I like to take the over on the passing yards when i take the over on the rushing yards.. its hard to take both away from a team, a lot easier for a team to get both. balance works.

Proposition bets are normally only available the day of the game, and only available in playoff/big games.

and i forgot.. weather.com should be bookmarked next to your online sports book of choice, trust me:)

They are, Raven; they are. :P Shame on you for leaving!

I hear even the Tastykake gods are upset with you!

Anthony 01-24-2005 01:18 AM

Philly hasn't had this much excitement with the Eagles since Jaws back in the late 70's, early 80's!

Raven 01-24-2005 06:29 AM

Au contraire, Anthony. We were pretty turned on with Rocky.

Dravyk. The Eagles will win. And, the curse will be broken. No shame, my friend. You've got enough spirit in you for the both of us.

We had a ton of excitement since then. First the Buddy Ryan unstoppable and revolutionary (at the time) Defense. Shortly after, the acquition of a young guy no one ever heard of named Randall Cunningham, who not only could leave the pocket, but was season after season one of the top five rushers with TDs. ... Alas, that was just a giant tease session. None of that ever amounted to anything.

Raven, just kidding! You can never take the Philly outta the girl! :) Keep rallying!!
