It's wonderful to watch the peaceful transfer of power ( though its Bush's 2nd term.) Democracy - Our gift to the world.

Lee 01-20-2005 11:27 AM

No plans to watch it here.

Although from what i gather there are some concerns about the security of Bush during the ceremony so who knows it could be interesting to watch.. decisions, decisions.

dantheman 01-20-2005 11:33 AM

Peaches 01-20-2005 11:36 AM

After the fucking Greeks , I of course Blame the French. ;-)))

BASTARDS!!!

The United States really just did a "Brad Shaw" on democracy.....

Copied it poorly.Took all the meaning , intent and enjoyment out of it and then they keep telling us how THEIR idea is so good that everyone else gets sick of hearing it , and decides to tell them to fuck themselves.

OK , the comparison does fall down a bit because if you don't go along with the way the US feels they can fuck you up.

Whereas Brad has to resort to making a gay video...

Bah! People of the world's other nations plagiarize America's criticisms of itself and then not only don't give credit but claim that the US is now not free to such discourse. ala RawAlex.

Go straight to the source. The NY Times!

I'm not watching. The plot is contrived and unoriginal. The lead actor isn't remotely believable. And it's going to take four years to get to the ending.

  You must be a little shy.

Embarassing? Come now.

Embarasing is dancing around in steets dragging dead multilated bodies behind.

Embarassing is having a future Monarch who dresses as a Nazi.

Embarassing is being on your 4th Republic, trying to hold on to power that has faded 100 years ago.

Embarassing is constructing a new statue to Stalin in the year 2005 to try and help your nation feel better about itself.

Embarassing is being a Canadian, where your opinion and that of your Country is on the same level as Uganda.

We all have something the be embarassed about.

Nope. Haven't seen one second of it. Didn't watch either of Clinton's either. Inaugurals bore me to tears. I'll watch his State of the Union speech though to see how much sunshine he tries to shove up our asses like all presidents do.

I suggest you read...kierkegaard followed hegel's dialectic - but he didn't agree with hegel's premises. Should I use aristotle's definitions? I can use rozenzweig's defintions about things as well he was a young hegelian.

Hegel created the modern dialectic...just like Plato created the original idea of a republic. Kierkegaard used Hegel's concept just like Aristotle did. It's called an analogy...familiarize yourself with it.

You chose aristotle's interpretation...justify it and show me what "democracy" has to do with a leader bound and governed by laws.

Good luck...

haha. I can't believe you are using dictionary.com in this discussion. What a joke.

[/b][/quote]
You're confused. I didn't say anything about dialectic. I was referring to Aristotelian logic and even gave an example.

Plato did NOT create the original idea of a Republic. Plato wrote in the 4th century BC. The Roman Republic was founded in the 6th century BC. Duh. I have a suspicion you've never read Plato's work just like you've never dined with the Queen of England.

Well then...who wrote the republic?

You should enlighten me...who created the concept of a leader governed by laws?

Plato wrote a book called "The Republic". He did not "create the original idea of a republic". I know the Roman Republic was founded about 500 BC. I don't know if there were any republican governments before that.

Come now, the US is the longest continual democracy in the WORLD today.

Don't hate... embrace!!

Just noticed this and had to respond :)

Prior to the ratification of the nineteenth amendment on August 18th 1920, there is no way on earth the United States could be termed a democracy.

Denying over half your population the vote is really not democratic.

So I would claim New Zealand as the longest continual democracy in the world, which authorized women's suffrage in 1893, a full 27 years prior.
